From the "Way Makers" Collection we honor Huey P. Newton, Fred Hampton & the Black Panther Party.
Huey P. Newton earned a Ph.D in social philosophy from the History of Consciousness program at the University of California in 1980. Huey along with fellow Merritt College student Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party. A group who's goal was to protect and serve the African American community. Mr. Newton was a revolutionary. Just to give context or a bit more perspective; he and Chairman Fred Hampton were like the Nipsey Hustle of their day, you see Black Men who are present, willing to protect by any means necessary and lead their people, promotes and teaches economic empowerment, and unity was then and still is a threat in America Huey P. Newton was murdered. Most say by the CIA.
Huey P. Newton was born on February 17, 1942 and died August 22, 1989.
